Elaine's Tea Room

Highlight • Cafe

A super popular cafe in an idyllic little Yorkshire hamlet, Elaine's deserves every client it gets. Great homemade cakes, sandwiches, and proper meals too (including a full English breakfast until midday).

Open daily from 9.30am to 4.30/5pm. Mega busy on Sundays and bank holidays, especially if the sun is shining. Always space for bikes.

A stunning view of my favourite of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks - Pen-y-ghent - from the Dales High Way trail. The profile of this brilliant mountain from this angle is so beautiful.

Stainforth Force Waterfall and Packhorse Bridge

Highlight • Waterfall

A scenic packhorse bridge crosses the river here before it flows over this large waterfall right next to the riverside path. Come on October and you might just see salmon leaping up it to spawn higher up the river

Stainforth Force waterfall

Stainforth Force is a wonderful waterfall on the River Ribble in one of the Dales' most popular beauty spots. While it can get busy during peak times (bank holidays, sunny weekends, etc.), at other times of the year you often have it all to yourself. If you happen to be here during autumn, look out for salmon leaping up the falls on their way to their spawning grounds.

Can't See Stone = Foggy
Swinging Stone = Windy
Spinning Stone = Whirlwind
Stone Jumping About = Earthquake
Stone Gone = Tornado

Others I've seen in the past include funny versions like -
If the rock can be felt but not seen, it is night time.
If the rock has white splats on it, watch out for birds.
If there are two rocks, stop drinking, you are drunk.

Feizor Village

Highlight • Cafe

A quaint hamlet in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Feizor is a wonderful place to take a break. Made from traditional grey stone and set amongst luscious green pastures, the village is just lovely. The limestone rocks in the area have made unusual escarpments such as Pot Scar, Giggleswick Scar, and Smearsett Scar which are well worth walking to. There is also a tearoom in the village where you can re-fuel with a generous serving of cake.
