Blackwell Mill and the River Wye — End of the Monsal Trail

Highlight • Bridge

You've made it to the end of the mighty Monsal Trail, Congratulations! A small detour off to the left will take you down to the River Wye where you can laze on the riverbanks and refresh your senses before making your way back.

A really beautiful trail runs along the river. The highlight are probably the stepping stones, but the rest is definitely also worth exploring.

Rusher Cutting Tunnel

Highlight • Structure

A tunnel on the former Midland Railway, now part of the Monsal Trail.

Chee Tor Tunnel

Highlight • Cycleway

This is the longest of the three railway tunnels here. It gets immediately more chilly once you are in during summer, which can be quite refreshing. Be careful with the cyclist as some do not seem to be able to read the 'slow' signs.

East Buxton Lime Kilns

Highlight • Monument

At a first glance from a distance these lime burning ovens look like the remainders of a bit strangely designed bridge. You can get in to understand better how they worked.

Millers Daler Bridge prepared for guided abseils to the path below. Abseiling the 25 m from the bridge is only allowed with licensed providers. If you are climbing using one of the cliffs in the dale is probably the nicer and cheaper option, for all others this can be a great experience.

Chee Dale Stepping Stones

Highlight • Structure

Check the water levels before you go - it's a long walk back if the water is over the tops of the stones

View of the Chee Dale Viaduct

Highlight • Viewpoint

Here a beautiful multi-arch stone bridge spans over the River Wye.
