Nice path for cycling, but the gates that you have to open and close make it a bit difficult.

Totnes Town Centre

Highlight • Settlement

Totnes is a small market town in South Devon, next to the River Dart. Here you can explore the narrow, bustling streets with lots of independent shops and cafés.

River Dart Path

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

The River Dart path is a scenic traffic-free section linking Totnes with Dartington. The river trail runs past Queen’s Marsh and Bidwell Brook on the Dartington Hall Estate.

You'll find bird hides and benches along the way and the Cider Press Centre at the end in Dartington. It's a great place to stop with a shop, gallery and locally sourced food from the cafe called Bayards Kitchen.

Renowned agroforestry expert Martin Crawford planted his 2-acre (0.8 ha) forest garden in Dartington in 1994. Now, it's grown into a fully functioning food forest with thousands of edible plants. The plants and trees all work in harmony to create a biodiverse forest that's robust against weather changes and pests – fascinating!

The garden is used for research, but you can also have a look around. Martin runs tours throughout the summer which I definitely recommend, but make sure you book online beforehand. You can try lots of unusual plants too. For more information visit agroforestry.co.uk/product/forest-garden-dartington-tour.
