Scherwiller

Highlight • Settlement

Scherwiller is located on the Wine Route and is the "stronghold of Rieslings". So it's worth exploring the city and its wine bars.

The Haut-Koenigsbourg, whose contraction means the king's high castle, offers hikers and lovers of fortified castles a gateway to the Middle Ages.
Built in the 12th century, it has undergone several renovations over the years.

It is the highest castle on the trail of the fortified castles of Alsace which once marked the border between France and Germany. Its privileged position offers unobstructed views of the plain of Alsace, the Black Forest and sometimes even the Alps.

If we imagine the strategic advantage that this represented in times of war, we can take advantage today of this boon for the simple pleasure of the eyes.

Monkey Mountain

Highlight • Structure

The entire region is always worth a trip. Especially with children especially Haut Koenigsbourg is highly recommended!

It is not an "insider tip" the destinations can be quite full, in good weather. But it is still worth it to have visited once!

Good link for an overview: selestat-haut-koenigsbourg.com/en

The "Monkey Mountain" is a beautiful loop in the forest. In this forest live freely around the 250 Barbary apes. At the entrance, each visitor receives a handful of popcorn, with which the monkeys can be fed directly from the hand. There are regular feedings where further information is well communicated by a guide. Despite the excitement it is very nice to observe and feed the monkey families.
Infrastructure is well proportioned to such "attractions" (parking, toilet, snack)

Greifvogelwarte "Adlerburg": Analogously, there is also a bird of prey visit with great air show of the beautiful animals! The whole thing in front of a breathtaking panorama. Again: No secret tip but well worth seeing!

Burg HautKoenigsburg: A very impressive castle with a very interesting history! During a Fanil excursion, she certainly breaks the framework that you have to give her (in time) to fully visit this very elaborately restored castle. But there is a fixed circular route, which provides even with children in a manageable time quite interesting impressions - and a unique panorama!

Alsace is much more than this (worth seeing) HotSpot! It takes above all time and peace to get to know the very special charm of this region.

This tour is no walk in the park. Depending on your technical abilities and fitness, you should be prepared for some pushing sections up and downhill. At least, that's how it was for us.
