St. Valentin Church (Seis am Schlern)

Highlight • Religious Site

St. Valentin, a romantic little church that is often used for weddings. When we were there, everything was decorated accordingly.
From here you have a wonderful view of Siusi and the surrounding area.

Seis am Schlern - Seis/South Tyrol ☀️🚶‍♂️⛰️💯
The village of Seis am Schlern, at 1,004 meters above sea level, boasts a long tradition as a holiday destination. After the main town of Kastelruth Dorf, Seis is the second largest village in the municipality of Kastelruth and has around 2,000 inhabitants. The typical characteristics of a mountain village give Seis its very special flair.

Here on the Schlern massif, you'll find everything a holidaymaker could wish for: hiking trails in the nature park, the Schlern-Rosengarten (a rose garden), climbing tours on the mountains, ski and toboggan runs, as well as numerous excursion destinations in the South Tyrolean surroundings, all within the impressive summer and winter landscape. The Geologists' Trail, for example, which leads from the healing springs of Bad Ratzes in the shadow of the Schlern to the Seiser Alm (Alpe di Siusi), is a popular hiking route. The modern cable car also takes you directly from Seis am Schlern up to the Seiser Alm.

Those who love culture and historical sites will also find plenty to enjoy in Seis: Several churches, such as the former parish church of Maria Hilf in the village center, still a popular pilgrimage destination, the Hauenstein ruins, once owned by the minnesinger Oswald von Wolkenstein, and the remains of Salegg Castle, invite you to immerse yourself in the past. 🚶‍♂️💯

The new parish church is located directly on the village square of Siusi allo Sciliar. Behind it is the local cemetery.
Construction of the new parish church began in 1937. This became necessary because the Maria Hilf church had allowed the village to grow thanks to the boom in tourism. The finished church was inaugurated in 1950 and is reminiscent of the strict shapes of old basilicas thanks to the emphasized wall structure. If you look at the church from the outside, it can be compared to a ship with the keel pointing upwards. The church looks like a ship standing upside down and is probably an allusion to Noah's Ark, which, as it was written, gave salvation during the flood. In 1962 the tower received five new bells. The four large arched windows depict the Sermon on the Mount, the sacrament of baptism, the sacrament of the altar, the Eucharist and the sacrament of marriage.🚶‍♂️💯
