View of Lake Heiterwang

Highlight • Viewpoint

A beautiful lake that lies in the middle of an imposing mountain world and is framed by it. A "Scenic Route" runs directly along the north shore, from which you have a wonderful view of the lake from the car. There are also enough parking spaces to stay longer. You can also walk directly along the lake. In winter the lake is frozen.

Wooden bridge over the connecting canal from Lake Heiterwang to Lake Plansee. There are opportunities for a relaxing rest with a view of the two lakes. If the cold water is not an obstacle, you can also take a refreshing bath.

Plansee

Highlight • Lake

The Heiterwangersee is the twin lake of the Plansee. The Plansee belongs to the municipality of Reutte, the Heiterwangersee to the municipality of Heiterwang, but they still form a unit because they are connected by a narrow, 300-meter-long water channel and together they reach the second largest lake area in Tyrol.

The water quality is excellent, the temperatures are just right for a refreshing bath on hot summer days and there are wonderfully beautiful bathing bays on the banks. The many lakes for leisure activities also make the two lakes so popular. Everything from beach volleyball to mini golf can be found in the immediate vicinity. You can rent rowing and electric boats, or have a stimulating sea breeze blowing around your nose on a ship. The MS Margarethe and the MS Wilhelm sail from Heiterwanger See and Plansee from mid-May to mid-October. Four entry and exit points are available, so a boat trip can be wonderfully combined with beautiful walks near the shore. There is also a Nordic Walking route right on the lake and it is ideal for ambitious training sessions.

The Heiterwangersee and the Plansee also attract many divers. They appreciate the diverse underwater flora and fauna as well as the good visibility. Diving is only allowed at marked places and only with the purchase of a day pass. However, the Heiterwangersee is freely accessible for bathers.

North shore of Lake Heiterwang

Highlight (Segment) • Lake

The Heiterwanger See together with the Plansee forms the second largest body of water in Tyrol. The Heiterwanger See is located directly at the gateway to the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena - in the municipality of the same name, Heiterwang. The Plansee is connected to the Heiterwanger See by a 300 meter long canal and belongs to the municipality of Reutte.

The boat tours are particularly popular – great dinner cruises also take place here. The Heiterwanger See is also extremely attractive because it is so diverse and many activities can be carried out around the lake.

August 2, 2023,Österreich: Tirol: Reutte: Kleiner Plansee, Heiterwanger See
Due to the absence of roads, the Heiterwanger See is very quiet in contrast to the small Plansee. Only now and then an airplane and the passenger ships can be heard. And of course the people, the lake is very beautiful, easily accessible and moderately overcrowded. There are various places where you can go into the water. The mountains all …

Our day today began with a hearty, first-class breakfast.
Freshly strengthened, we started on the right side of Lake Heiterwang, which we followed to the bridge and tributary of Lake PlanSee. Crossing the bridge, we turned right to follow the hiking trail on the left bank of the PlanSee. After about 1.5 km we arrived at another bridge that spanned …

Beautiful hike at Lake Plansee with a loop around Lake Heiterwanger See - we went for a swim at the end - it was simply a dream.

Following a beautiful tradition from my years of hiking, today we went on a short hike on the last day of the year. The two lakes are ideal for this, embedded in the Alps with a fantastic panorama. The sun also reported again at the end of the year and accompanied me for a while. Time to reflect on the …

Today we circled the Heiterwanger See.
Because we were there quite early, we were of course given a parking spot 😁 and had almost peace and quiet for the first half of the lake 🙏 We parked at the end of the Plansee.
Day ticket 5€.
At the end, of course, we went to the Plansee to cool down 🤩😎

The suspension bridge Highline 179, Ehrenberg Castle and Fort Claudia are still hanging on 🙂 you should definitely take it with you when you are already in the corner of Reutte 🇦🇹.

Straight lines are not shortcuts. Tour recording was interrupted twice unintentionally.

Farewell tour around Lake Heiterwang. A beautiful, relaxing circular route with a place to stop for refreshments. Our only recommendation...It's definitely more relaxing during the week, as the first section is also used by cyclists, which makes it a bit crowded...
