The Old Town Hall is an eye-catcher in Oberstdorf, especially with its painted facade. The pictures are reminiscent of very important events in the history of Oberstdorf.

Partnership with Megève
The partnership between Oberstdorf and the French Alpine town of Megève at the foot of Mont Blanc can look back on 45 years.

It all started in 1968 when the town councilors of both places gave the “blessing” for the Jumelage, as the partnership is called in French. Nothing stood in the way of founding a sibling with Megève in high Savoy. Megève is approx. 1,100 m high and, like Oberstdorf, developed from a farming village to a leading tourism and sports location with international importance. The interests and problems of both places are almost the same, and the similarity of landscape, climate and mentality of the population is astonishing.

Oberstdorfer and Megèver "ratified" the partnership in 1970 with mutual visits. Since then there has been a regular exchange of both places. The "Association of Friends Megève-Oberstdorf" was founded in 1978. Students from the Oberstdorf high school and the college in Megève “live” the jumelage of both places during regular exchange weeks. In 1985, the town council named the square between the Old Town Hall and the Oberstdorf Haus as "Megèver Platz" as a visible sign of the partnership.

In the past years, a meeting of both locations was organized every 5 years and in 1995 invited to the "silver wedding". Firm, family friendships have developed from this. As a private highlight of the partnership, the first marriage of an Oberstdorf man to a Megèverin was celebrated in 2001.

Both places celebrate the 45th anniversary of their partnership in 2015:
