Wastl am Wald is a mountain range in the Lower Austrian Limestone Alps, which is named after a well-known mountain inn. It lies at the transition from the Türnitz Alps to the Ötscherland.

The name originated in the second half of the 19th century and goes back to the wood servant and later innkeeper Sebastian Weinberger, whom the locals called Wastl because of his first name.

The rustic restaurant was located on a gentle saddle (pass height 1006 m) on Puchenstubner Straße B 28 from Puchenstuben to Gösing on the Mariazellerbahn at almost 1000 m above sea level. A., while the ridge rises to about 1200 m. The inn has been closed for several years.

The area is close to the Mariazellerbahn and is therefore an ideal starting point for a variety of excursions and circular hiking trails in all directions: to the west, steeply down into the canyons of the Ötschergräben, along the winding railway hiking trail, or to the east to the gentle mountains around the Hennesteck. Take the Mariazellerbahn to the starting point in Frankenfels and then via Wastl am Wald and Annaberg into the Traisental.
