Harbor of Lokrum Island

The Portoč boat harbor forms the access to the approximately 1,600-meter-long and 500-meter-wide island of Lokrum, off Dubrovnik. The most convenient way to reach the island is by the nature reserve's official shuttle boats. The ships Zrinski and Skala shuttle regularly between Dubrovnik and Lokrum, with the crossing taking about 15 to 20 minutes.

It is important that you definitely catch the last boat, which usually departs around 6 p.m. This is because there are no overnight accommodation facilities on the island.

Ruins of the Benedictine Monastery on Lokrum

In the heart of Lokrum rises the former Benedictine monastery, a historic site whose roots date back to the 11th century.

The impressive ruin combines Romanesque and Gothic architectural forms with elements of the Renaissance. In the 17th century, the monastery was abandoned after an earthquake, before being purchased in the 19th century by Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg. He established his summer residence here with an exotic garden and breathed new life into the place.

Today we sailed together from the port of Dubrovnik to the island of Lokrum 🌴🛳️

Loud crickets, props from games of thrones, nature reserve, free-roaming peacocks 🦚 with their little ones, a saltwater lake with a grotto, numerous bathing bays, fantastic views, botanical garden, fortress ruins, and much more.
