Dr. Salter's Daydream Statues

Ada and Alfred Salter were hugely selfless characters who fought hard to imrpove lives in poverty-stricken Bermondsey in the early 20th century. Ada became the first female London Mayor of Bermondsey in 1922 and dedicated her life to social activism.

Before this, the couple had a child, Joyce, who sadly contracted Scarlett Fever at the age of 8 and died. This artwork, created by Diane Gorvin in 1991, pays a poignant tribute to the family, with the Salters watching their young daughter play with a cat.
