The stone foundations of a rectangular hall church from the Carolingian period have been preserved in the central nave. Untertor (Lower Gate) in Markdorf

The Untertor is part of the oldest part of the city's fortifications and was built between 1230 and 1250. This is indicated, among other things, by the gate tower with the boss blocks at the corners.
