NSG Mühlenbachtal

Highlight • Natural

The 81.3-hectare nature reserve was designated in 1986 and is part of the 120-hectare Natura 2000 site "Trittau Mill Stream and Wire Mill Area." It encompasses the valley of the Mühlenbach stream between Grönwohldhof and Trittau, as well as the valley of the Obek, a tributary of the Mühlenbach, southeast of Grönwohld.

The Mühlenbach and Obek streams flow through the area in a near-natural state. They feature submerged aquatic vegetation and are often accompanied by bushes, riparian forests, and swamp forests, as well as marshy herbaceous vegetation and reedbeds. In some sections, the streams also flow through extensively managed meadows. Several artificial fishponds are also located here.

The former railway embankment of the Schwarzenbek–Bad Oldesloe railway line, now used as a cycle path, crosses the nature reserve at several points.

Trittau Water Mill

Highlight • Monument

In the historic center of Trittau, adjacent to the Hahnheide nature reserve, lies the watermill with its mill pond.
It is the landmark of Trittau and is nowadays used as a cultural center.
The current mill building was constructed in 1701, but a grain watermill at this location has been documented since the 16th century. However, the mill site is much older. Shortly after Trittau Castle was built in 1327, the mills around the castle were probably also constructed. These included the grain watermill and a sawmill, which no longer exists today. Milling operations ceased in 1963.
Until 1973, the Stoltenberg company still operated an agricultural trading business here, then the municipality of Trittau acquired the building.
In 1976, the mill was registered as a cultural monument.

Drahtmühle Grönwohld

Highlight • Historical Site

The wire mill in Grönwohld is an extraordinary historical one
Half-timbered mill that was built in the early 17th century. It is the oldest surviving “industrial building” in Stormarn. Most recently, it was used for paper production until it was listed in 1972.
