Schwentine Dam and Rosensee Hydroelectric Power Station

Highlight • Monument

Shortly before the Schusteracht reaches its northernmost point in Raisdorf, it crosses the Rosensee in the Rosenfeld district of the municipality of Rastorf, which was created by the damming of the Schwentine. It is the only dam in Schleswig-Holstein. Hydroelectric power station 2 was built on the dam wall in 1909, which at that time served the engineer Bernhard Howaldt to cover the electricity requirements of his factories in Kiel. Hydroelectric power station 1 from 1904 is a little further down the river. Both power stations have been under monument protection since 1994.

White Bridge over the Rosensee

Highlight • Bridge

Never thought the bridge was over 100 years old!
It was built in 1907, restored in 1987 and listed in 1993 as the oldest concrete arch bridge in Schleswig-Holstein.
I used it for the first time in 1986 🙂

The first bridge was built at this point in 1779. Before there was a ford through the Schwentine (the Rosensee did not exist then, because it was only dammed up in the 20th century).

The bridge is repainted every second year by residents.

Fantastic hiking trail on an avenue of oak trees along the Schwentine.

Down on the Schwentiene, stay left, there is no passage to the right. One should not stop here. The protection of nature should prevent you. We collected beer bottles, cans, and other rubbish here. The animals only eat the rubbish and/or get injured.
The bike and riding path over the Schwentine is highly recommended. This bridge must also be crossed in the course of the Schuster Acht.

View of Postsee

Highlight • Lake

A staircase is the connection between the Uferweg and the Sieversdorfer Weg. Below the stairs you have a great view over the Postsee and there are also three benches for a break.

Pohnsdorfer Stauung

Highlight • Natural

The Pohnsdorf Reservoir Landscape Conservation Area is a wetland of approximately 1 square kilometer located between Postsee, Neuwührener Au, and the Preetz Monastery Forest.

The area around Neuwührener Au was acquired by the Schrobach Foundation in 1991 and subsequently abandoned within the following two years. Today, the white-tailed eagle has established itself here.

Forest Chapel Zum Ewigen Troste

Highlight • Religious Site

As early as 1264-1289, Neuwühren appeared in the "Kiel City Register" under the name de Javorn, which derives from the Old Polabite (a Slavic root) word Javor for maple. Shortly thereafter, it was renamed Nî-Jaworn, indicating that, as was common at the time, a German "new" village was founded alongside the Wendish one for the purpose of colonization. By 1460, the village was already called Nyenwörden—it was now only a short distance to Neuwühren. Like most of the surrounding villages, Neuwühren belonged to the Preetz Monastery. After the construction of the church there, Neuwühren became part of the Elmschenhagen parish. In 1931, the village was incorporated into the newly founded municipality of Pohnsdorf.
