Baambrugge Village Drawbridge

Highlight • Bridge

The cast-iron bridge dates from 1877 and was built by the iron foundry "De Prins van Oranje" from The Hague. The bridge, which has a limited load-bearing capacity, connects the Rijksstraatweg and Zand en Jaagpad with Brugstraat. The rising section consists of two cast-iron posts supporting an openwork cast-iron hammer. The entire structure has been listed in the national monuments register since 2001.

The Veenmolen in Wilnis

The mill was moved to its current location in 1822 and operated using wind power until 1947, when an electric motor took over. The owner continued his business elsewhere in an electric mill. The municipality of Wilnis bought the mill, which was restored as a standing monument in 1965. The Utrechtse Molens Foundation purchased the mill in 1971 and in the following two years the mill was restored to working condition. Since then, millers have been grinding grain in the mill on a voluntary basis every week. The rods are almost 24 meters long and equipped with the Old Dutch sail system. The mill has one pair of grinding stones. The mill is open to the public on Saturdays.
