Highlight • Historical Site

A journey into the history of the division of Germany, a journey into the past, but recommended.

The Schwedenschanze on the Höhbeck is a historical fortification that got its name from its use by Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War. Today the Schwedenschanze is an interesting destination for those interested in history and hikers who want to immerse themselves in history and enjoy nature at the same time. The observation tower offers you a fantastic all-round view of the southern section of the Lower Saxony Elbe Valley Biosphere Reserve. From the platform you can see the impressive Elbe, which winds through the landscape. The riparian forests, wet meadows and sand banks that surround Europe's fourth largest river are a habitat for numerous bird species, insects and the Elbe beaver.

St. John's Church, Restorf

Highlight • Religious Site

The St. Johannis Church in Restorf is a small brick hall building on a high fieldstone base under a gable roof with hollow pan roofing with a full hip in the east, a square half-timbered west tower with brick infill under a pyramid roof with hollow pan roofing.
The ship was built in 1740 and the tower was built in 1847.

Woodhenge at Hasenberg

Highlight • Monument

"Woodhenge" is the replica of a wooden circle made of 56 wooden posts from the Early Bronze Age, the remains of which were found here during excavation work. Unfortunately, the replica doesn't really look "Bronze Age" as the posts are visibly attached to a concrete ring. The rest area, as well as the table and benches next to the wooden circle, just as little create a "Bronze Age atmosphere" as the transmitter mast on the Höhbeck, which can be seen in the northwestern background of Woodhenge, which I think is a bit of a shame. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful and historically interesting place. The landscape in the area, with Gartower See, is very beautiful. I often cycle in the area and enjoy it.

Nice place to relax even if you don't go swimming. For me, as a hobby photographer, there are many beautiful photo motifs at Gartower See.

With a baroque baptismal angel reminiscent of a ship's prow. An open kitchen that is worth visiting
