The statue with the Celle Castle in the background is a very nice photo subject. The castle park is also very beautiful. On my Dannenberg-Hanover bike tours, I like to stop here and take a few photos.

Celle Castle Moat

Highlight • Natural

The prehistory of the castle park begins in the late 18th century because the fortifications remained untouched until then.

Demolition began on the western bastions in 1784 and continued until 1827. Most of the material was filled into what was originally a very wide moat. The newly created area between the palace and the moat, which was reduced to an average width of approx. 6.7 m, was planted with trees and used as a promenade along a circular avenue of poplars.

Old Town Hall

Highlight • Historical Site

The northern part of the town hall dates from the time the town was founded in 1292. Gothic vaults in this area of the town hall and in the Ratskeller indicate this. The north gable in the Weser Renaissance style was built in 1579. A really beautiful building

The house was already mentioned in 1522. At Heiligen Kreuz 26 is the oldest dating still standing half-timbered house in the old town. It was built as a gabled gable-roof half-timbered building with a stepped gable protruding storey by storey with a Gothic ornament.

Old town of Celle

Highlight • Historical Site

The old town of Celle, with its almost 500 historic half-timbered houses, a town hall with a Weser Renaissance facade, medieval churches, and a magnificent castle with a castle park. The Dukes of Brunswick-Lüneburg resided here, which is why Celle enjoyed a number of privileges.

Visitors to Celle come for the well-preserved and restored old town of Celle, a true half-timbered town, and for the sights, the Residenzschloss (Residenz Palace), the Bomann Museum, the Stadtkirche St. Marien (St. Mary's Town Church), and the old town hall.

Hoppener House, Celle

Highlight • Historical Site

The most famous half-timbered house in Celle!

The Hoppener Haus, built in 1532, is located in Poststraße / Rundestraße.

Of all the half-timbered houses in the Old Town it is undoubtedly the most magnificent.
Six stories collar in the gable over each other.
Setting thresholds, stands and Fußwinkelhölzer over the two lower floors show rich figurative ornamentation, in addition to persons of rank planetary gods, diabolical and foolish figures, mythical creatures, grimaces and reptiles, in between breastplates, which are probably to characterize the different estates.
In the gable, on the other hand, only the sleepers are provided with powerful carvings.
The thresholds on the eaves of the house show the tendril bar.
The image Ernst of the Confessor was added after 1901.

Just in front of it is a Pipenposten (with the coat of arms lion), one of three service water wells of the fiscal water pipe from the 16th century.
