Vogelsang Pass

Totenkopf Summit

The little road from Oberrotweil up to the Totenkopfgipfel is a highly recommended detour up to the highest peak of the Kaiserstuhl. The paved road leads up to the large transmission tower on the summit, the last few meters are in fact not accessible at all, as the transmission system is extensively fenced.
The rest of the road is well paved, only a few sections, each 50-100m long, are very old and require considerable caution with narrow racing tires, especially downhill. The gradient is changeable, partly crisp with 12% partly almost flat. The route winds its way through the forest with many bends and in some sections confusing - be careful when you go down, tourists sometimes get lost in cars on the actually closed route and forest workers are always to be expected. Driving on it is a bit tricky when it is wet, as the asphalt can then be very slippery.
