April 10, 2022,vom Winde verweht ... im Saale-Unstrut-Triasland ⛅🌦🌬
The wind went a little faster today, at least when it didn't come from the front 😃 Unfortunately, there were no rest stops along the route - except at the large oak tree and in the cafe and restaurant in Memleben

Route from Memleben along the Unstrut. As you climb up after crossing Großwangen, the path gradually disappears into the undergrowth until it can no longer be found without using komoot. Once at the top, turn onto a clearly visible path. If you're not afraid of crawling through the bushes, go the same way! :-)

Memleben Monastery, museum visit halfway through our hike. Very well restored museum.
Modern and informative. We recommend this trip to any history-loving hiker. But please check online beforehand, as the museum is closed in winter.

The important palace of the East Frankish King Heinrich I and his son Emperor Otto the Great was in or near Memleben. The exact location has not yet been pinpointed. At the end of the 9th century, Memleben was listed as belonging to …

The route over the Eichberg is a bit difficult to walk in places. Here the wild boars have let off steam extensively. You shouldn't be afraid of mud and slush 😀🐗🐗

I have to admit, I had never heard the place name Memleben and the addition 'Kloster und Kaiserpfalz' before this tour. Place of death of King Heinrich I (936) and Emperor Otto the Great (973) are added as a further description. Memleben was an incredibly important place in the Ottonian period, just like Magdeburg and Cologne at that time. Today …

The ascent to the Altenburg from Großwangen is quite impressive. In Großwangen at the cemetery, a plaque provides information about the castle, of which almost nothing but the floor structures remain. To the west, several earthworks and ditches are clearly visible.
In the forest towards Memleben there are areas that consist almost entirely of relatively young beeches. On the Memleben …

It started in cloudy weather but then it got really nice. How wonderfully green this corner is, I'm thrilled 🌳🌳🌳
