St. Martin's Church, Memleben

Highlight • Religious Site

The oldest church in this place is verifiable for the year 970. The Gothic sacred building was built in the 15th century - probably in 1486 - and was baroqueized in the 18th century. The quarry stone building has a rectangular western tower erected in 1508 with a hipped roof, a small ridge turret and clock dormer, as well as a bricked-up portal and four mighty buttresses.

The original fortified church is 30 meters long and 10.5 meters wide, the church tower is said to be around 30 meters high. The former defense tower is one of the landmarks of Memleben. Four buttresses each support the southern and northern walls of the nave, which are more than two meters deep on the ground. This is also immediately noticeable when looking at the church.

Wendelstein Castle

Highlight • Castle

The inhabited and privately owned castle complex is easily accessible. Some areas of the external facility are no longer accessible because they are in disrepair. There is a wonderful (covered) rest area that offers a unique view of the Unstrut loop. A very historic area that is definitely worth a detour.
