Old railway tracks

Highlight • Structure

The remnants of the track system still present here provided access to the fuel and ammunition bunkers still located here. One line led here from Neubiberg station. There are also tracks near the Neubiberger S-Bahn station at the Rewe supermarket that point towards the landscape park and formed the initial part of the route. In a westerly direction towards Unterhaching, the tracks were flooded by the ramparts there, but after a while they reappear as a double track system and end near the A8 motorway.

The literature sources are inconsistent with regard to the builder of the tracks. In some cases, the year 1938 is taken from the badly dilapidated wooden planks, which indicates German production and would also match the time the fuel bunker was built. Other sources take US casting data from the iron rails. Possibly both apply and the originally German track systems were renewed or restored during the American period of use.

Another rail connection leads from Perlach station to the site. This strand can clearly be traced back to German origins. Remnants of track (outside of today's tour) can still be found here in the north of the Bundeswehr University, namely on Nailastraße and Berghamer Straße.

Hachinger Valley Landscape Park

Highlight • Natural

Hachinger Tal landscape park, access on the Ottobrunn bypass.
In 1997, the Unterhaching community acquired a large part of the abandoned Neubiberg airfield with around 126 hectares in order to develop the Hachinger Tal landscape park, a regionally significant park with leisure facilities and recreational facilities, but also to create and maintain areas to protect nature.

Neubiberg Cemetery

Highlight • Structure

The cemetery "Auf der Heid" is a modern facility with a funeral hall, meditation garden, extensive burial area and a source stone with a watercourse that flows towards the cemetery hill. The area has its own, wide-looking overall impression, which stands out from classic, venerable cemeteries with old trees and separating hedges.

This cross is on a hill right next to the old runway and behind the Neubiberg cemetery. From above you have a beautiful view over the runway towards Unterhaching.
