Highlight • Historical Site

The house was built in 1868 as the first house in this part of Düsternbrook.
The main building with its hip-hip pan roof, masonry decorations and wall anchors was little changed.
The annex building dates from 1928.

Hochdorfer Garden

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Hochdorfer Garten in Tating near St. Peter-Ording is a monument to rural garden culture.

It is a pleasure to enjoy the diversity of flowering plants and to explore the exotic trees in this monument of rural garden culture. In spring e.g. 17 historical apple varieties bloom in the fruit tree district of the Hochdorfer Garten: Prinzenapfel, Gelber Richard to Tönninger. A lot has changed since the Baroque garden was created around 1764. The calm in a revitalized garden has remained. The Hochdorfer Garten was listed in 1979.
The Hochdorfer Garten can be seen as the most important garden monument of the rural garden culture in Schleswig-Holstein.

Haubarg Hochdorf and Baroque Garden

Highlight • Historical Site

From 1764, a baroque garden was built on an area of around five hectares in connection with the construction of a new parade.
Haubarge are the largest farmhouses in the world. There were once 400 Haubarge on Eiderstedt. Where does the name come from? The building with the huge storage space under the thatched roof was used to recover hay and as a storage place for un-threshed grain. Huge oak stands enclose the square, also called Gulf. The living rooms and the stables are grouped around this stud frame. The threshing floor, the Loh, is on the side. From here the harvest was stacked in a square. The whole farmhouse gets its stability from this stand construction. Should a storm surge destroy the outer walls, the upper part would remain. The Haubarge on Eiderstedt were created in the 17th century by the influence of the Dutch.
