Hermitage of Santa Eulalia

Highlight • Religious Site

The primitive sanctuary was built with the alms of the faithful in 1574. At this time the cult of the Saint was almost extinct, since the hermit who took care of it had left for some time. Over time, a certain Alonso de Murcia appeared, who gave wine out of charity to the pilgrims who passed through here. Later the sanctuary would pass to the private property of Ginés de Arnedo and later the Council promoted the restoration since the devotion for the Saint grew, since there were many sick people who were cured by drinking the water from the fountain. In the 16th century, the hermitage was rebuilt with a gabled roof and decorated with the Mudejar-style coffered ceiling that it presents today.

Espuña South Pass

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Pass

Mostly good asphalt with some damage, especially further up. Very little traffic, just visitors to the national park.
Incredibly beautiful route, which I prefer as a climb.

Collado Bermejo

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Located in the Sierra Espuña and at an altitude of 1,201 m, we reach the Bermejo pass accompanied by a pine forest during the ascent and where we find a beautiful viewpoint. At this point, a brief false flat is imposed to recover energy and breath and contemplate the panorama and places as beautiful as Umbría de Peña Apartada, Peña Apartada itself, Cerro de la Garita, and of course, the deep and green Valley of the Espuna River. To the north, we find the Morrón de Espuña, and to the west the Barranco de Enmedio, El Purgatorio and the Pedro López hill.

Aledo to Sierra Espuña Scenic Road (C-21)

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Mostly decent asphalt, not so much traffic during the day with the exception of tourist traffic. In the north, at the end of this section, we head north into the Sierra Espuña. Further to the northwest the road condition becomes poor,

Aledo

Highlight • Settlement

Stop in Aledo to explore its narrow streets and get closer to the Torre del Homenaje, the main vestige of its old fortress. From the upper part of the town, wide views open up towards Sierra Espuña and the fields of the Guadalentín valley.
