Tykocin Castle and Castle Restaurant

Highlight • Castle

The castle - then located in the border area with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania - was built in 1433 for the Lithuanian nobleman Jonas Goštautas, the governor of Trakai and Vilnius, in place of the original wooden fortress. In the 1560s, after the death of the last member of the Goštautas family, the castle became the property of King Sigismund II Augustus, who expanded it[4]. Construction was directed by Job Bretfus, a military engineer and royal architect. During the reign of Sigismund Augustus, the building served as a royal residence with an impressive treasury and library, as well as the main arsenal of the crown. In the years 1611-1632 the castle was again rebuilt and surrounded with bastions by Krzysztof Wiesiołowski, the starosta of Tykocin (Translated from Wikipedia).

The Narew River is 484 km long and flows through Belarus and Poland, where it joins the Vistula near Warsaw. Its sources are in the Białowieża Forest, and its riverbed is full of meanders, oxbow lakes and branches. The Narew is considered one of the last multi-channel rivers in Europe. In the river valley you can find many species of birds, which is why part of its course is protected as the Narew National Park. It is a unique place for lovers of nature and peace.

Wonderful route of the Green Velo / EV11 through the Biebrza National Park. The paved road leads about 20 km through a wonderful forest. Traffic is light.

Viewpoint Over the Biebrza River

Highlight • Viewpoint

The point is a bit invisible from the road. It is located just behind the wooden bridge. Renovation of this observation deck is planned for autumn 2023. Calm place. There are often swans and ducks here.
