Lubin Entrance Archway

Highlight • Monument

Formerly a viaduct for the railway transporting the raw material from the vicinity of Lake Turquoise to the cement plant in Lubiń. Now a great entrance gate to Lubin. You drive by and you immediately feel driven into the village. I recommend driving in. A cool attraction 👍

Lubin

Highlight • Settlement

In the 12th century, Lubin was the fortified seat of a castellany, which was first mentioned in 1155 in a papal bull. In 1178 Lubin received Polish city rights, Magdeburg city rights in 1289. Together with the Duchy of Liegnitz it fell to the Bohemian crown in 1329, which the Habsburgs held from 1526. After the First Silesian War, it and most of Silesia fell to Prussia in 1742. From 1816 to 1945 it was the seat of the district of Lüben. From 1936 to 1945, the Lüben air base was located here, today's Lubin airfield.

Towards the end of the Second World War, Lüben was occupied by the Red Army in the spring of 1945 and soon afterwards was placed under Polish administration by the Soviet occupying forces along with almost all of Silesia. Lüben received the Polish name Lubin. The German population, insofar as it had not already fled, was subsequently expelled by the local Polish administrative authority.

Wolinski National Park Entrance

Highlight • Rest Area

The Wolin National Park extends over large parts of the island of Wolin. One of the entrance points to the national park is right at the end of the town of Międzyzdroje. From here you can reach the bison enclosure in a short time. The paths are easy to walk on and the new signage and trail markings are very good. Visiting the national park is subject to a fee - there are payment machines at the entrances.

Awe-inspiring and majestic: a herd of bison in the Wolin animal enclosure. Opinions may differ on depriving wild animals of their freedom. In any case, bison would no longer exist if humans hadn't attempted to preserve this species, which they had nearly eradicated. And perhaps visitors to the wildlife park will also learn a different appreciation for deer, roe deer, wild boar, and eagles when they encounter these animals up close. At least, that's what the forest spirit in the area believes.

Wolin National Park

Highlight • Forest

The Wolin National Park (Polish: Woliński Park Narodowy) is a national park in Poland, which is located at the mouth of the Oder river in the northwestern part of Poland, near the German-Polish border. The eponymous island of Wolin, on which the national park is located, is the largest Polish island. Established in 1960, the park was expanded in 1996 to include the Świna Delta islands. Furthermore, parts of the Baltic Sea (beach and sea areas) east of the city of Międzyzdroje (Misdroy) have been added.

Cycle Path Through Woliński National Park

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

A sharper driveway in the vicinity. When going downhill, be careful of gravel and sand on the curves. Beautifully!

Lake on the island Wolin, in the south of the village Wapnica (municipality Międzyzdroje), in the district Kamień, the voivodeship Zachodniopomorskie. The surface of the lake is 6.74 hectares and its depth is 21.2 meters. A trademark is its turquoise blue color. More information at pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jezioro_Turkusowe (in Polish)
