Shortly before reaching the top of the hill we find the small Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Monti, the reconstruction of a 16th century building destroyed by an earthquake in the mid-19th century. The sanctuary is dedicated to the "Virgin of the Seven Sorrows". The exterior has a square, white facade decorated with sober architectural motifs; the interior (open only for weddings, baptisms and special holidays) cannot be visited, but from the small gate that closes it you can glimpse an elongated rectangular plan room with two rows of benches and at the back the altar, on which it rests the icon of the Madonna dei Sette Dolori (depicted with seven swords on her chest), patroness of the Pisan-Livornese hills and object of veneration by the inhabitants of the entire area.
A path runs alongside the sanctuary from the back, here a large semicircular clearing surrounded by cypresses and with a large white cross, a real panoramic terrace on the Pisan mountains, the plain of Pisa, the Apuan Alps.
It can be reached from the sp13 (coming from Santa Luce-Riparbella) or from the sp21 (Acciaiolo-Torretta) with a sinuous and undulating path that winds gently through the hills. Between km 16 and km 15, on the right a small sign indicates the Sanctuary which can be reached by mtb (immediate right) on an uphill dirt road, or on foot (straight and then right) among the trees on a rather steep path interspersed with rough steps

The most notable element of this place is a Roman "mansio" which existed from the 1st century BC to the mid-6th century AD and was discovered between 1989 and 1990.
The Mansio was a rest area where those traveling on behalf of the Roman State could find rest and refreshment (the term "Mansio" in fact derives from the Latin "manere" which means to stop, stay).
The archaeological excavation is located between the locality of Torretta Vecchia and the village of Castell’Anselmo near the SR 206, what in Roman times was known as via Aemilia Scauri. What has been unearthed is a thermal structure used by the Romans traveling on this road that started from Vada Volaterrana (today Vada in the province of Livorno), where the Via Aurelia then ended, and continued towards Pisa and Liguria.
This Mansio preserves the classic characteristics of the Roman baths: in addition to the changing room, the frigidarium, tepidarium and calidarium, part of the heating system of the thermal plant (pillars, pipes or tubules) and sections of the mosaic flooring with geometric designs to which are added portions of masonry in opus mixtum.
The surface of the mansio exceeds 600 square meters (its original nucleus was greatly expanded over the centuries, especially in the Constantinian age to become a "villa" of considerable size), but much remains to be excavated, because part of the buildings is located under the current homes).
