In 1995, the threat of high water was so great that a quarter of a million people in the river area had to evacuate. Also in Culemborg. Immediately afterwards, a project started to strengthen the dike and develop nature.
This work of art is a lasting reminder of that project.

Around 1980, the municipality of Culemborg purchased the empty mill hull and had it restored to operational status in phases. Earlier, in the 1960s, the hull housed the Culemborg Harley Davidson club.
Total rehabilitation as a milling mill followed in 1993. The gear (without the windshaft, because it is in Maasbracht) comes from the Oranjemolen in Lewedorp (Zld.) which was dismantled in 1973 and largely demolished at the end of 1992. Since then, grain has been milled again on a voluntary basis.
In the spring of 2007, the stone hull was thoroughly checked.
