Heiligenhafen Harbor and Promenade

Highlight • Settlement

The sight of the Baltic Sea holiday park in Heiligenhafen is a shock: multi-storey concrete blocks arranged in a mighty semicircle with a total of almost 1700 holiday apartments from 1970. According to the motto "it can always be worse". Otherwise a high priced tourist spot.

Dahmeshöved Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

Nice lighthouse between Dahme and Kellenhusen. Can be approached either on a walk or a bike ride.

The Dahmeshöved lighthouse stands on a coastal promontory about halfway between Fehmarn and Travemünde.

The octagonal tower was built entirely from bricks in 1878 and 1879. It is 28.8 meters high, which means that the beacon is 33.7 meters above sea level.

The neighboring smaller brick tower was built in 1939 to give the lighthouse keeper an opportunity to monitor the visibility.

During the German-German division, the Dahmeshöved lighthouse had a special meaning for the GDR citizens, because it was a point of reference when escaping across the Baltic Sea as the so-called "light of freedom".

Those who are more interested in the lighthouse can also visit it with an expert guide. The opening times - in the season from April to October - are: Sunday to Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. every half hour.

So to make this clear once again and to avoid any strange thoughts: Thies will be on this tour, he doesn't have Komoot and therefore cannot be marked as a participant. 😉
