Witches' Tower

Highlight • Historical Site

It was part of the fortification of the outer bailey. Its masonry dates from the 15th century, the half-timbering is from the second half of the 17th century. According to popular tradition, during the period of witch hunts (until the end of the 17th century), women suspected of witchcraft were incarcerated here.

Delicious ice cream, great varieties, also unusual options. In the middle of the historic Windecker market square 👌🏻🍦

Windecken Water Wheel

Highlight • Monument

The Bach bell foundry was located in Windecken. Johann Peter Bach, born in Hungen, cast the bell for the Reinhardskirche in 1745. On this occasion he probably also met Anna-Katharina Spielman, the daughter of a Windeck council member, whom he married in 1746. He bought the Pflücksburger Hof and built a small watering house in the garden. The large casting house was later built in front of the Kilianstädter Tor. In around 150 years, around 400 bells were cast in Windecken by four Bach generations. This bell is meant to remind you of that.

Upper Castle Heldenbergen

Highlight • Castle

The castle itself is privately owned and only the front part can be visited. You should definitely take it with you. A very attractive ensemble.
Incidentally, the village of "Helidabergea" was first mentioned in a document in 839. The castle itself was described around 1200. In the 17th century it was then converted into a castle.
