Chalk Cliffs of Jasmund National Park

Highlight • Natural Monument

The famous chalk cliffs on Rügen stretch for 15 kilometers
on the Jasmund peninsula – from Sassnitz to the village of Glowe.

The sight alone is magnificent; after all, you don't see such imposing white cliffs,
rising 120 meters high, every day. But their origin is equally astonishing: the cliffs were formed more than 50 million years ago from calcareous, fossil-like remains of various small animals that were deposited in the sea and solidified into rock over time.

Together with sand, clay, and other rocks, this is how the chalk cliffs we know today were formed.

Beautiful nature guaranteed. The forest is not managed, but left to nature. Please stay on the paths so as not to disturb nature and animals.

View of Wissower Ufer

Highlight • Viewpoint

From this vantage point, you have a magnificent view of the Wissower Ufer. The lookout point is located just beyond the Piratenschlucht (Pirate Gorge) and is easily accessible. There's also a bench to rest on. Highly recommended, especially at sunrise: a special atmosphere and mood.

Chalk Cliffs of Jasmund National Park

Highlight • Natural Monument

The chalk coast stretches from the outskirts of Wedding in Sassnitz to Lohme. The highlight shown here is just behind the entrance to the national park and gives you a first view of the chalk coast: the Gakower Ufer and the Wissower Ufer. Not far from here, at the Piratenschlucht, you can take a staircase to the Hochuferweg. If you want to continue walking down the coast, you should note that the next ascent is only possible at the Kieler Bach.
Along the chalk coast you can often find fossils such as sea urchins, thunderstones, petrified corals and mussels. However, extreme caution is advised, particularly in winter or during storms and heavy rain.

The path to the Kieler Bach leads down several steps. It is the last descent or ascent before the Königsstuhl.

Ernst-Moritz-Arndt Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Ernst Moritz Arndt Viewpoint is an impressive vantage point in Jasmund National Park on Rügen. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the striking chalk cliffs and the Baltic Sea. The vantage point was named after the Rügen-born historian and writer Ernst Moritz Arndt.

July 30, 2021,Von Sassnitz Wedding zum Kieler Bach und zurück über den Hochuferweg
Vorab:
From the Sassnitz beach promenade, where there is simply no parking space for bicycles, walk along the coast below the chalk cliffs and back one floor up on the Höhenweg.
At the end of the beach promenade, keep right along the shore.
The path along the chalk cliffs consists almost entirely of loose pebbles and boulders. From time to time …

Hiking on the chalk coast on Germany's largest island, Rügen, is one of the absolute highlights. For me personally, it remains the most beautiful place on the island and one of the most beautiful places in Germany.
The starting point is the entrance to the national park in Sassnitz. There are many different variants of the tour. The prerequisites are …

On the Sunday of the Dead, we went on this hike to the chalk cliffs near Sassnitz to remember 🥰 my parents, grandma, grandpas, great-grandmas, great-grandpas 🌸 🌻🌹, where my mother was also buried at sea 🎗️.

Beautiful hike along the steep coast of Sassnitz in the direction of the Königsstuhl. The time is wrong because we strolled along the coast for about 4 hours (view of the ground... 😀). For the way back on the high bank path through the beech forest we needed about 1 hour.

My first beach trip on the island of Rügen. First, I walked with my two-legged companions from the national park car park through the beech forest to the cliff coast. At the end of March, a very quiet hike. Along the path, there are many viewpoints from which you can enjoy a wonderful view down to the beach. The way …
