Haus zum Greif and Mersihaus

Highlight • Historical Site

The House of the Griffin was built in 1738.
Two griffins can be seen in the beam above the first floor, and the year of construction is in the corner post. The building served as an inn until 1919. It was last owned by the Oberkirch-based brewery Schrempp and Gugelmeier. There has been a drugstore here since 1919 and a pharmacy since 1975.
The house next door was owned by the Mersi family of wood turners for generations. It dates from 1691, making it the first known building erected after the town fire.

Oberkirch Lion Fountain

Highlight • Monument

In 1570, Bishop John IV gave the city a sandstone lion that holds the episcopal coat of arms in its claws. This lion is still part of the Oberkirchen city coat of arms today. Until 1864, the lion had its place on the market, opposite the archway on the church square. In 1895 the column with the lion was put back in front of the town hall. The original lion can be admired in the local museum.
