Earlswood Lakes

Highlight • Monument

Earlswood Lakes were constructed in the 1820s. Construction took nearly 5 years to complete, and the labour force included prisoners of war from the Napoleonic Wars Some people say that lying at the bottom of all the lakes are the dead bodies of people who died while being forced to make the pools and they had no place to be buried so they were left there, either in groups or alone. Also the cost of construction was £297,000

Although the route suggested by Komoot was good there were some problems in the wooded section between the two railway crossings. The path was closed and therefore needed to find a detour.
