The original castle was build at this place by the knight order "Deutscher Orden" who conquered the land south of baltic sea in 13th century. It's purpose was to secure the area against the hostile Lithuanians. In 16th century it was remodeled in the style of renaissance and got it's current appearence. Now it houses an hotel.

Evangelical Augsburg Church in Giżycko

One of the few protestant churches of former East Prussia that were not expropriated after Second World War and consecrated into a catholic one. There still exists a protestant evangelical congregation.

The old furnishings are still almost completely preserved, [22] for example the altarpiece with the "Inviting Christ" by Carl Gottfried Pfannschmidt or the baptismal font, an oval basin carried by a putto, which was made around 1750 and from the parish church of Pestlin Polish Postolino) comes from West Prussia. The organ is a work of the Kemper Orgelbau company from 1935, restored in 2011 by master organ builder Andrzej Kowalski, while the tower clock dates from 1881 and was made in the tower clock factory J. F. Weule in Bockenem (State of Hanover).
