Lake Valdaora

Highlight • Lake

The Olang Reservoir (also Welsberger Reservoir, Welsberger Lake or Olanger Lake, Italian Lago di Valdaora) is located in the upper Puster Valley in South Tyrol. It dams the Rienz River at a height of up to 1055 m and covers an area of up to 44 hectares. The reservoir is used to generate energy. In addition to the water from the reservoir, the associated Bruneck-Olang hydroelectric power station also uses catchments on the Rienz tributaries Antholzer Bach, Brunstbach, Furkelbach and Wielenbach.

It is absolutely impressive how the wild river, which rises at the foot of the Three Peaks, rushes through the valley here.

Lake Dobbiaco

Highlight • Lake

In my opinion, the lake is one of the most beautiful in the Dolomites. However, bathing is only for the toughest. The campsite restaurant has a delicious Calzone pizza!

Dobbiaco–Cortina Cycle Path

Highlight • Cycleway

The Dobbiaco-Cortina cycle path winds along the old railway line through breathtaking Alpine landscapes. The route, slightly downhill from Dobbiaco to Cortina, is also suitable for less experienced cyclists and passes through coniferous forests, wooden bridges and tunnels dug into the rock. Along the way, you will come across panoramic points that offer suggestive views of the surrounding Dolomite peaks, including the majestic Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Along the route there are old railway stations transformed into rest stops and small refuges where you can refresh yourself.

September 12, 2025,Von Olang über den Toblacher See zum Dürrensee und auf dem Rückweg zur Sennerei Drei Zinnen
Today, from Olang, past the Olang reservoir, our actual destination was Lake Toblach, which is also truly beautiful. But on recommendation, we continued on to Lake Landro, which was wonderful! We stopped there and enjoyed the view of the lake. The gravel paths are very easy to navigate, and the whole thing is actually pretty flat. To be honest, we're …

Magnificent postcard day in this superb Dolomites massif which does not usurp its reputation as a terrestrial mountain paradise for the former mountain climbers that we are.
After parking at the Welsberg/Monguelfo station (Germanic influence obliges), we take the superb greenway which goes to Dobbiaco. Here, cycling is king and this is shown by the quantity and quality of cycle …

A really nice tour, unfortunately we had to turn around shortly before our destination Pletz Wiese at 2000m due to battery issues. We can highly recommend this tour. A full battery 🔋 and good fitness are required. Greetings to all cyclists 🙋 🙋‍♂️

A day like a dream... And that's no exaggeration. Everything was fine today. Even if it was 46 km steadily uphill, the stage was manageable. Great respect for Benita, who, despite her only 8-speed hub gear (and without an electric drive), managed the climb without pushing once.💪
As so often in the last few days, I can only say today: …

Yesterday we spontaneously drove to South Tyrol/Olang and today straight to Lake Toblachersee🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️. Actually we wanted to cycle to the Three Peaks but there were nasty storm clouds 🌩 in the sky, so we went back to Olang with a few ☔️

In today's part 2 we went down from Lake Misurina to Toblach and then the Pustertal to Bruneck.
Descent to Dobbiaco via wonderful bike paths and with a view from the back (north) of the Three Peaks.
From Toblach then along the partly wild Ries (river) to Bruneck. Also very nice paths. Bruneck is surprisingly beautiful with a few churches …
