Monument to Ottavio Bottecchia

Highlight • Monument

Ottavio Bottecchia was one of the most famous and successful Italian cyclists between the two world wars. First Italian winner of the Tour de France in 1924, first ever to win the Tour holding the yellow jersey from the first to the last stage, the "bricklayer of Friuli" (nickname that derives from his youthful work, although he was not from Friuli but from Veneto) he participated in only one Giro d'Italia but is commonly remembered among the greatest, like Girardengo and Binda. Here on the road between Peonis and Cornino, where he died during training, a plaque is today placed. To delve deeper into his story, Claudio Gregori's book "Il corno di Orlando" is splendid, while the second season of the podcast "Maglia nera" is dedicated to Bottecchia.

Lake Cornino

Highlight • Lake

Lake Cornino is a small body of water that originated during the retreat of the ice which occurred about 10,000 years ago. The bottom of this depression is almost ten meters lower than the bed of the Tagliamento and the waters of the groundwater of the Osoppo plain flow into it through the permeable sediments.

Bridge over the Arzino stream

Highlight • Bridge

The bridge, very suggestive on the clear waters of the Arzino torrent, is located in Vallata di Vito d'Asio. The bridge is reached from the paved road. Beyond the bridge to the south begins the gravel road that leads to the castle of San Giovanni which at some point becomes an impervious path.
