In the middle of the square is the monument of Quintino Sella, one of the most famous landmarks of the city. The municipality of Iglesias gave Quintino Sella honorary citizenship in 1871.
After his death, a support committee for a memorial was formed in the city. The monument, the work of the sculptor Giuseppe Sartorio, was erected on June 7, 1885 and moved to the center of the square around 1909. The sculpture consists of two groups of Carrara marble: one depicts the bust of Quintino Sella on a rocky plinth, next to it an oak crown; the other shows a miner naked to the waist, armed with a hammer and chisel.
