Cliffs of Étretat

Highlight (Segment) • Natural Monument

The route along the coast goes along wooded roads. Beautiful properties and small towns line the route. Some views of the coast. A steep descent to Yport. After passing through the CAMPING SITE.

When descending to Fecamp, there are individual roadblocks to be passed in the campsite. The route can also be bypassed.

The return journey is quick along small roads and dirt tracks. The only highlight is the train station in Les Loges. For enthusiasts!

Le Tilleul

Highlight • Religious Site

The parish church of Tilleul is named after Saint Martin. It is made up of a large nave rebuilt in the 18th century. separated from the aisles by semi-circular arcades supported by Tuscan columns. The choir, which was spared during the reconstruction, is a testimony to the old building located at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. It ends with an apse with three cut sides. The prismatic section arches which support the vaults fall on lamp bases. Elegant pendants adorn the keystones. The elevation is one story. The tracery windows are flamboyant in style. The opening above the main hall is wider and preserves stained glass windows representing the crucifixion, scenes from the life of Saint Martin and the legend of Saint Hubert, some fragments of which date from the origin of the building. The stone baptismal font with prismatic molding is probably from the beginning of the 16th century. On the triumphal arch, a polychrome wooden Christ is a work of the 15th century. The sacristy is an old stately chapel dating from 1601. For the work to reinforce and cover the slate bell tower, topped with a spire, the Safeguarding of French Art granted aid of 25,000 F in 1993.

La Poterie-Cap d'Antifer

Highlight • Other

Long an agricultural town, La Poterie-Cap-d'Antifer has had a relatively peaceful history interspersed with Norman and English invasions. But it was mainly in the 20th century, during the Second World War, that the village distinguished itself with, in particular, the destruction of a German radar by British paratroopers and Norman resistance fighters in February 1942 as part of Operation Biting. . The lighthouse itself suffered from the events with its destruction in 1944 during a bombardment.

Étretat

Highlight • Settlement

People come to Etretat for the sea and the cliffs. The tourists, with cameras around their necks, have made this fishing village a world famous place, but they also spoil the atmosphere on the busiest days. Still, the place keeps its charm; the spectacle of the cliffs at sunset is so grandiose that everyone should see it once in their life.

Market Square

Highlight • Historical Site

This beautiful wooden construction of the old market halls, which now houses craftsmen, gives the Place du Maréchal-Foch cachet. (Michelin)

Bénouville

Highlight • Settlement

The church is dedicated to Notre-Dame: its choir from the end of the 12th century has pointed vaults and its nave probably dates from the 16th or the beginning of the 17th century.
The choir was decorated with frescoes by the religious painter Louis Chifflet around 1895: there are two paintings in arcades, each representing a scene from "the childhood of Christ". In the nave a funerary plaque dated 1768 mentions Antoine Gillain, Marquis de Bénouville. The coat of arms of the Gillain family are inserted in an oval Sable and composed of a chevron Or, a silver crescent to the dexter, a gold star to the sinister and an armed and langued lion gules in point, the whole surmounted by a crown of marquis.
Two wooden statues hold the attention:
Saint Eutrope (XVI-XVIIth century); bishop healer of dropsy1
Our Lady of the Harbor
We also note the existence of a remarkable Eucharistic reserve in polychrome stone. It consists of two superimposed cylindrical floors crowned with a dove.

Old Les Loges station

Highlight • Other

Highly recommended is the ride on the Velo-Rails, which takes you directly down to Etretat. All you have to do is pedal, like riding a bike. It's basically the same, only on old rails. Then you return in an old retro train. Absolutely beautiful. And since our little one was only 4 months old at the time, we were able to easily strap a baby car seat onto the seat and transport the folded stroller frame with us.
