Small, beautiful place. The restaurant reminds us of how it used to be. Unfortunately, history

The previous building of today's Sulzthal Church may have been built in the 12th century. In 1612, this previous church, consecrated to St. Cyriacus, was expanded and, possibly after a fire on July 13, 1664, replaced by a new building in 1674, which was consecrated on September 11, 1680 by the Würzburg auxiliary bishop Stephan Weinberger. The tower of the church was built in this phase.

In 1804, Anton Wüst rebuilt the church, which extended to the nave and choir. The altars, the confessional and the rococo cabinet in the sacristy, which is now in the Würzburg Diocesan Museum, were taken from the Oberzell monastery, and the pulpit and an organ were taken from the Heidenfeld monastery. Since the time of the renovation, during which an altarpiece of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was installed, the church has had its current patronage.

In 1958, a tower clock, electric bells and a new organ were installed. A second sacristy and heating system followed in 1968/69. The church was completely renovated in the mid-1990s. Wikipedia
Worth seeing is the partly still well-preserved ring wall of the fortified church with its gates, next to the church Ölbergkapelle sandstone figure group in a modern chapel, around 1800, fortified church enclosing the church, with gated areas - mostly single-storey solid buildings with cellars, house stone masonry, sandstone, the core probably 12th century , some with half-timbered structures, 18th/19th. Century, on the inside of the churchyard wall Stations of the Cross.
