Fantastic road along the coast. Asphalt is great. Cyclists are very considerate.

Greenway along the Morlaix river to Roscoff

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Departure from the last stage of the Vélodyssée EV1 cycle route in France, to the Roscoff ferry to England. The start of town along the picturesque waterfront and the road is tight but at least marked with lines, and cars are limited to 30 mph with large signs and surface paint. Further on, it becomes quite pleasant.

Port of Morlaix

Highlight • Other

The port of Morlaix is today a pretty little marina with around 200 berths.
In the Middle Ages, it played a strategic role for trade in Brittany. This role has been carried out by the port of Roscoff since the end of the 20th century.

There are some incredibly impressive old trawlers living out their last days in the mud here. There's a place to pull over opposite and an information board telling you about the history of the shipyard. The boats lie right next to the road, so it's easy to see them close up.

Dourduff Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

This beautiful bridge crosses the Dourduff River but the views across the Morlaix estuary are particularly wonderful. The Eurovelo 4 crosses the bridge and there are plenty of great places to stop nearby for a rest.

Lock Crossing in Morlaix

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

As long as the locks are closed, you can cycle across the river this way instead of using the road. It doesn't save a huge amount of distance, but it's certainly a more fun way of crossing the river. You also get great views of the viaduct and the moorings, which you can't quite appreciate if cycling in traffic.

The sheer quantity of artichokes growing here is incredible but the backdrop makes these fields even more notable. As you pedal along the Eurovelo from Roscoff, you're greeted by sweeping views of the craggy coastline with a foreground of these spiky, bulbous vegetables.

Roscoff was a bit like a tourist circus - not for me!

Saint-Pol-de-Léon was a lot quieter and, like Roscoff, is a lovely place - a great "old town."

We got a good tip for the route from our Airbnb host.
I was also getting fed up with driving on the EV45.
The EV45 has some bad roads, zigzags, and …
