Temescal Creek Emeryville 🎯 Ohlone History Walk

Highlight • Historical Site

Already a great little park with native indigenous outdoor sculptures and a paved bike trail along Temescal Creek, this will become an even better biking connection with the completion of the bridge across the railway, scheduled to open at the end of 2021, creating a connection through Horton Landing Park to the Greenway from Emeryville to Richmond along the BART line.

Natural sculptures and a Ohlone history walk with timeline memorialize the native inhabitants of the Bay Area at the site of a large sacred burial site of the Ohlone people, a once-massive archaeological shell midden deposit. It was one of a complex of five or six mounds along the mouth of the perennial Temescal Creek, on the east shore of San Francisco Bay between Oakland and Berkeley. Updates about the fight about the protection of the much larger actual site, a designated California Landmark, from destruction by real estate development are at shellmound.org

Emeryville Bayfront Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The City of Emeryville built the Emeryville Bayfront Bridge and it opened in 2021. The bridge is a bike-friendly connector over the railroad tracks near 53rd Street to the Bay Street Shopping Center.

Horton Bike Boulevard

Highlight • Cycleway

The Emeryville Greenway here connects currently via quiet side streets toward the Mandela Parkway Bike route, and in future will be routed through the Sherwin Williams Park bikeway to the new bike bridge to the Bay waterfront. Watch the walls on the north side of the boulevard for interesting sculptures.
