The Whitworth Centre and Café

Highlight • Historical Site

Historical park that also has the Terrace Cafe. Great place for a stop if riding the NCN 680 Rowsley to Matlock portion of the White Peak Loop.
More information on the history at thewhitworthcentre.co.uk/history.html The owner of the park was the inventor of the Whitworth Screw (I didn't know what it was but engineers might).

Whitworth Park Pond

Highlight • Lake

White Peak Loop trail goes through the park behind The Whitworth. It's scenic but a bit stop-start when avoiding pedestrians and following the gates and signs. If I'm on my road bike, I just tend to use the quiet lane near the railway crossing and rejoin trail further up towards Rowsley.

Monsal Trail Stone Arch Bridge

Highlight • Cycleway

The Monsal Trail is a traffic-free trail for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users. A former railway line, the trail runs for 8.5 miles (13.7 km) between Blackwell Mill in Chee Dale, and Coombs Road in Bakewell. The compacted gravel trail – which is relatively easygoing and is perfect for all ages and abilities – winds through some of the Peak District's most picturesque limestone dales and heads through characterful tunnels.

The trail follows a section of the former Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway, which was built in 1863 to link Manchester with London. The line was closed in 1968 and remained unused for 12 years before being taken over by the Peak District National Park.

Bakewell

Highlight • River

Bakewell is a pretty market town in the heart of the Peak District. While the town is perhaps most famous for its unique pudding, Bakewell has plenty to offer; traditional tea rooms, quirky eateries, fine restaurants, historic buildings, a weekly market, the charming River Wye and plenty of spellbinding countryside to explore.
