Downs Link at Botolphs

Highlight • Viewpoint

There is a drinking fountain and fountain following in the direction of the South Downs Way, just before you reach the road. Following the river towards Steyning the road winds and you have to pay attention to the signs to take the fork that follows your route.

Adur Estuary

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Adur Estuary is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and an RSPB nature reserve. It is the only local saltmarsh habitat with extensive mudflats that support wading birds, more so in the winter. Oystercatchers, snipe, lapwings and dunlin are some of the birds you may spot, as well as kingfishers, plovers and turnstones.

Shoreham Old Toll Bridge

Highlight (Segment) • Historical Site

The easiest to access and safest way to cross the Adur in the area - the alternatives are busy roads. This crossing links with the Downs Link on the east side of the river and other Downs access points, including Steyning Bostal, to the west.
