Skierniewice railroad station

Highlight • Monument

The first station building was built in 1845, the second in 1873, in the English Gothic style with neoclassical interiors, to welcome the Tsar of Russia, who was visiting his residence near Skierniewice. The station building burned down in 1914, renovated according to the plans of Jan F. Heurich, and renovated between 1980 and 2003 in accordance with conservation requirements (plaster on the facades was removed, and the brickwork of the walls was exposed).

On August 1, 1944, German Bahnschutz officers burned a wagon at the station containing the bodies of prisoners who had been suffocated during a transport from Pawiak. As it turned out, among the dead were also living people hiding among the dead, posing as corpses in hopes of avoiding transport to a concentration camp.

A monument to Stanisław Wokulski, designed by Robert Sobociński, was erected on the platform in 2010.

Roman Catholic garrison church located in Skierniewice. It belongs to the Deanery of the Air Force of the Field Ordinariate of the Polish Army.

The church was built as a garrison church belonging to the Tobolsk Infantry Regiment of the Tsarist Army stationed in the city. The cornerstone for the construction of the church was laid in 1899, while the consecration took place in 1903. The construction was financially supported by officers and soldiers from Skierniewice. Tsar Nicholas II Romanov also donated a large amount. The church was built to commemorate the death of Tsar Alexander III Romanov. The building was located on a square between the barracks. Originally, it was a brick five-domed church that could accommodate 1,000 people and was visible from a great distance.

In 1936, the church was rebuilt into a garrison Roman Catholic church according to the design of Jan Łukasik.

Skierniewice Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

The reservoir on the Skierniewka (Łupia) River is already visible on maps of Skierniewice from the 15th century. Initially, the reservoir was located near the village of Dęba, which was later incorporated into the city of Skierniewice. It was practically untouched by humans until the second half of the 20th century. It was not until the 1970s that its lower section was excavated near Zadębie Street and the Zadębie district. As part of the reservoir's renovation carried out in the years 1996-1999, the current reservoir bowl was shaped.
