Tillo was a man of Saxon descent and must have been born at the beginning of the seventh century.
(Later Saint) Eligius sent Tillo to the monks of Solignac, where he received training and later did Christian work in Flanders. He managed to 'convert' quite a few people to Christianity, especially in the area around Kortrijk and Tournai.
After the death of his teacher Eligius, he returned to Solignac. Later he retreated further as a hermit. He died in the year 702.
