Bibarrambla Gate

Highlight • Historical Site

The gate was erected in the 11th century. Between 1873 and 1884 it was dismantled and in 1935 it was rebuilt from its individual parts in the forest outside the Alhambra. The gate was also called "Arco de las Orejas" (the arch of the ears). Here the severed body parts of criminals were put on display.

Carrera del Darro

Highlight • Trail

Remember that the Carrera del Darro is a very old route, although the current route dates from the 17th century. It was then when, due to the damage caused by a powder magazine located next to the church of San Pedro and San Pablo, part of the wall was demolished and the riverbed was modified.

The Pilar del Toro was the last work of Diego de Siloé and dates back to the mid-16th century. Originally, it was located at the intersection of Cárcel Baja and Elvira streets, but in 1940 it was moved to its current location at one of the corners of Plaza Nueva, opposite the Church of Santa Ana. This pillar, made of stone from Sierra Elvira, served as a watering trough for animals and a water supply for the residents of the neighbourhood.
