Les Iles Nature Reserve

Highlight • Natural Monument

Les Iles: This area is a wetland in the central part of the valley, where former mining activities have led to the formation of lakes.
These lakes now provide refuge and food for countless bird species.
It is an important resting place for migratory birds and is also home to several breeding birds.

Parish Church of San Maurizio

Highlight • Religious Site

The Chiesa parrocchiale di San Maurizio in Fénis, located in the Aosta Valley, is a historic church dedicated to San Maurizio. This beautiful church, originally built in the 15th century, extends over an impressive 35 metres. The architecture is typical of the region, with a single nave and a beautiful apse with a dome. The intonated façade has an ornate rose window at a height of 8-10 metres. The wooden portal, decorated with an incised floral motif, is an eye-catcher. The bell tower, which dominates the landscape, has a height of 44 metres and houses five bells.

Railway bridge over the Dora.

Highlight • Bridge

Railway over the Dora. Worse were the consequences of the previous floods. The cycle path was no longer recognisable and transformed into a single sandy plain.

Near Chambave (AO)

Highlight • River

The Dora Baltea, also known as Doire Baltée in French, is a river in northern Italy. With a length of approximately 168.3 kilometers, it is a left tributary of the Po. The origin of the Dora Baltea is at Mont Blanc, where two rivers meet: the Dora di Ferret, fed by the Pré de Bar glacier in Val Ferret, and the Dora di Veny, fed by the Miage glacier and Brenva glacier in Val Veny. As the river flows through the Aosta Valley, it passes towns such as Aosta (where the Buthier flows into it) and near all the important towns in the lower part of the Aosta Valley: Châtillon, Saint-Vincent, Verrès and Pont-Saint-Martin. Once in Piedmont, the Dora Baltea flows through the town of Ivrea and much of Canavese, where it receives from the right the waters of the Chiusella and finally reaches the Po at Crescentino, just downstream from Chivasso. The Dora Baltea is a popular spot for whitewater rafting and kayaking. In early summer, in May and June, the rivers are usually high due to meltwater from the mountains. During July, August and September, water levels are usually lower and temperatures warmer.
