Strada degli Scarubbi

Highlight • Trail

On "dangerousroads.org" this road is described as a "terribly dangerous mountain road". For motorists, the road is now closed anyway, which is more of a guarantee for bikers for a nice, quiet time on two wheels! A bit of concentration can not hurt considering the steep slope on one side of the road;)

The "road" was built during the First World War, is approximately 10.5 kilometers long and connects the Passo Xomo with the Porte del Pasubio.

Here's a glimpse of what awaits you:

Church of Santa Maria del Monte Pasubio

Highlight • Religious Site

The church of Santa Maria del Monte Pasubio was built in memory of the fallen of the First World War. Next to the church there is a cemetery and a fascinating Roman-style commemorative arch, also dating back to the first post-war period.

General Achille Papa Refuge

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Rifugio Generale Achille Papa is a refuge on the upper edge of the Val Canale at 1928 meters. It was built after the First World War and uses buildings from a former Italian barrack camp. Since then it has been rebuilt several times, today the building is quite imposing and renovated according to sustainable criteria.

The view up here is pretty breathtaking! Both from the hut, as well as the hut itself. Even the journey through the tunnel that ends here is an experience. In the hut you can strengthen yourself and even stay overnight. There is also a bivouac. Info unfortunately only in Italian: caischio.it/rifugio-papa

Generale D'Havet Tunnel

Highlight • Structure

This tunnel acts as a watershed between the Vallarsa and the rocky gullies on which the Papa Refuge stands. From Passo Pian delle Fugazze to the Galleria d'Havet is the longest and most demanding part of the climb. After crossing the tunnel in 2km you reach the Pope and the climb becomes easier. Breathtaking panorama both before and after crossing it.

Strada degli Eroi

Highlight • Trail

The Road of Heroes owes its name to the twelve plaques affixed along it in honor of the twelve gold medals for military valor who fought on Pasubio during the Great War. The twelve people remembered are: Lieutenant Cesare Battisti, Captain Aldo Beltricco, Bersagliere Torquato Cardelli, Lieutenant Umberto Cerboni, Major Felice Chiarle, Second Lieutenant Fabio Filzi, Colonel Antonio Gioppi, Second Lieutenant Giordano Ottolini, Major Mario Rossani , Colonel Eduardo Suarez, Second Lieutenant Ferdinando Urli, Lieutenant Carlo Sabatini.

Strada degli Eroi Trail

Highlight • Trail

A stretch of road on the Pasubio massif, in the Vicenza Pre-Alps, the Strada degli Eroi was built following the First World War to provide the summit area of the mountain with a safe access route. The actual Road of Heroes is the approximately two kilometer long stretch that connects the Giuseppe d'Havet Gallery to the Achille Papa refuge: this stretch is in a certain sense the appetizer.
