Avenue Verte London-Paris

Highlight • Cycleway

This cycle route was built on the old railway line of the Dieppe-Paris line, the Avenue Verte London-Paris has kept the memory of the trains that pass: stations, barriers, signals and even rails punctuate the passage.

From Gournay-en-Bray to Forges-les-Eaux, 20 kilometers of shared path allow you to discover small villages typically Brayon.
From Ferrières-en-Bray to Beauvais, you will only have to enjoy the gentle path specially designed for cyclists.

Façade of the Carmelite Chapel of Gisors

Highlight • Religious Site

This majestic facade located near the Casino comes from the town of Gisors. Originally, it was the facade of the chapel of the Carmelite convent built in the 17th century at the initiative of François Sublet. After the French Revolution, this building was transformed into a municipal theater before being bombed during the Second World War.
Jacques Hébertot, owner of the Forges Casino in the 1950s, bought the last remaining intact vestige from the town of Gisors and erected it in the town of Forges-les-Eaux with the aim of recreating a certain historical setting.

"Beau-voir", the town would be well named: "Beautiful to see". The existence of Beauvoir is drowned in the mists of time, certainly in the first centuries of our era.

The "Boutonnière" of the Pays de Bray is a depression 2 to 15 km wide, bordered on each side by more or less marked escarpments (cuestas). Soil erosion is uneven. Some points of resistance have given rise to witness mounds. (The Monts de Sigy, Beauvoir en Lyons..)
In this depression, slight undulations create a varied landscape, composed of hedgerow meadows, wetlands, cultivated fields and vast forest massifs.
There are clayey soils, suitable for pastures for dairy cattle breeding. On the summits and plateaus, the soil is made up of clay and flint, while the lowest areas are dominated by meadows and forests. The soil is very humid, with a ferruginous subsoil (thermal springs) and iron ore, as well as colored clays (ceramics) and glass industry linked to the forest.

In Beauvoir en Lyons, the mosaicist Milan Uzelac has perpetuated the glassmaking tradition on the orientation table. (Orientation table 6 on the Route des Paysages)

Mondory Park

Highlight • Other

The park of the Hôtel de Ville, also called Parc Mondory, houses two pavilions: the Oratory of Anne of Austria and the Guardhouse. The original building, made of ferruginous sandstone, brick and half-timbering, dates from the 17th century. It was located on the site of the current Hôtel de Ville.
Owned by Le Vaillant, a master glassmaker, it was one of the most beautiful houses in the town.
Thanks to its size and location, it was chosen to accommodate the King of France Louis XIII and Queen Anne of Austria during their cure in 1633.
During this royal stay, the local nobility and the Deputation of the Parliament of Rouen presented themselves to the King.
Leisure activities occupied an important place: hunting, theater, etc.
The famous Mondory and his troupe were brought from Paris. He presented three plays: Mélite, Clitandre and la Veuve by Pierre Corneille.
The latter took advantage of this to draw the attention of the Cardinal and thus obtain his protection.
In memory of this episode, the park of the Hôtel de Ville bears the name Parc Mondory.
