Drinking Water Museum Pumping Station Vogelenzang

Highlight • Monument

This is the former steam pumping station of Gemeentewaterleidingen Amsterdam, which is one of the oldest drinking water companies in the Netherlands, founded in 1813. After purifying dune water in filter beds, this station pumped the water to Amsterdam via a 23-kilometer network of iron pipes. The building exhibits classicist elements, such as pilasters, moldings and round arches, which are typical of representative buildings from the mid-19th century. The pumping station is recognized as a provincial monument in the field of business and technology.

Nowadays it houses the Drinking Water Museum, a museum about the production and distribution of drinking water.
