View of the Vecht River and the mill in Ommen

Highlight • Viewpoint

In the center of Vechtdal lies the old Hanseatic city of Ommen. Originally, Ommen is a settlement near a shallow part of the river Vecht, which originated around 1100. The city law was awarded in 1248 by the bishop Otto. In 1492 Hessel Mulert was commissioned to build a bridge. There, where the parish hall stands today, a bridge house was built in 1532. The bridge house was rebuilt in 1758 and 1925 modernized again. Then it was expanded in 1955 to its present size. Today Ommen with its many campsites is known primarily as a tourist destination. In the summer months, many events are planned there, such as the well-known Ommer "Bissinghtage" and the Bissingher Fairs (every second Tuesday in July).

The weir in Junne is about 100 years old. In recent years, heavy traffic has passed over the bridge that is on top of the weir, causing cracks in the masonry of the weir. It is unknown what the current condition of the weir is in the part that is under water. They are therefore going to drain the weir and investigate it. Based on this investigation, they can determine whether the weir needs to be replaced or renovated.
There is a bridge on top of the weir. The bridge is not suitable for heavy traffic and is now only accessible to cars, cyclists and pedestrians.

Junne Weir, Overijsselse Vecht

Highlight • Bridge

A weir across the Overijsselse Vecht at Junne, where the rippling water and surrounding nature form a beautiful landscape. A nice stop during a walk or bike ride, with a view of the river and plenty of opportunities to spot birds.

Found route on Komoot, don't know from who, but thanks anyway for the route👍
In my opinion, the northern part still offers room for improvement, it is a lot of asphalt and a lot of straight ahead. But otherwise a top route.
