Church of the Nativity of Our Lady

Highlight • Religious Site

It is an oriented five-aisled brick church building, the oldest parts of which date from the 17th century, but which is largely neo-Gothic. The choir and north transept are the most important 17th century parts and are built in sandstone.

Old Artillery Entrance Fort 8 Hoboken

Highlight • Historical Site

At this location you are standing in front of the Artillery entrance of the fort. The stone bridge pillars are silent witnesses of this. Fort 8 is one of eight Brialmont forts around Antwerp that were built between 1860 and 1864 as part of the National Reduit Antwerp. Fort 8 did not play a strategic role during WW1 because it was not modernized and reinforced with concrete. You can visit the inner fort (Reduit) with a guide by appointment. Highly recommended. The Reduit exudes purity in military architecture. You step back more than 150 years in military history. Book Fort 8 at Gidsenwerking and you will be capitulated back in time...

Sorghvliedt Castle

Highlight • Castle

The castle now serves as the Hoboken district house. The origin of the domain dates back to the early 16th century.
The current building was built in the 18th century. In 1825 the French garden was replaced by a garden in an English landscape park.
The municipality of Hoboken has been the proud owner of the building since 1937.

Broydenborg Castle

Highlight • Castle

Broydenborg Castle was also originally a playground or Hof van Plaisantie. Balthasar van Wissenborg built a first castle here in 1540. Several aristocratic owners succeeded each other until it came into the possession of banker Jozef Verbist in 1830. He had some older outbuildings demolished and built a new late-classical castle diagonally behind the old court, the current south wing. Adrien-Eugène van der Beken-Pasteel, owner from 1871 to 1929, extended the castle with a higher north wing.

In 1928 the castle park became public domain. The current Broydenborg Park was the last remnant of it. The municipality of Hoboken bought the rest of the domain and the castle in 1929, demolished the older castle and parceled out part of the grounds. The nineteenth-century building housed an industrial school.

Later on, all kinds of municipal services were accommodated, which explains why older Hoboken residents sometimes still refer to the castle as 'den dop' or the medical school supervision. The castle currently houses various Hoboken associations, such as the food distribution of the Welzijns Schakel Hoboken, the Red Cross South District and the Humanist Association. On the first floor, the Hoboken Heemkundige Kring studies history. Their collection can be viewed on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment with the secretariat.
